An elephant never forgets and I will never forget our day at the Maesa elephant camp! The elephant is the national animal of Thailand and well loved by it's citizens, so we just had to check them out.
After about an hour's drive, we found ourselves at the top of a high mountain surrounded by lush greenery and flowing rivers. Thailand is truly beautiful.
Did you know, the elephant is the only animal that can't jump? It can hold just over 2 gallons of water in it's trunk AND can learn up to 60 commands? Bet you didn't. I didn't either. They are pretty fascinating animals. Smart, gentle, humorous and down right cute.
We watched them eat bananas, blow kisses, kick soccer balls, play harmonicas and even paint beautiful pictures! After the show, we jumped on the chance to ride one of these gentle giants into the Thai jungle. A bit -A LOT- bumpy and SO high up! We loved it, what a great experience and well worth it!
We ended the day by getting up close and personal and literally hugging our new pachyderm pals goodbye. It was a riot and I never thought I'd have such a soft spot in my heart for these wrinkled, intelligent mammals.
